Stephen Turcotte grew up in Ithaca, New York. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University in Applied and Engineering Physics. He had just started graduate school at MIT in Earth and Planetary Sciences when he met two missionaries and was baptized into the Church. After serving a full-time mission in the Mexico, Monterrey Mission, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Utah in Electrical Engineering. Brother Turcotte spent six years at Utah State University and Space Dynamics Laboratory before coming to BYU-Idaho in 1997 to teach in the physics department. Brother Turcotte met his wife, Justine Wanlass, in an FHE group at the University of Utah. They have six children and two grand-children. He enjoys skiing, swimming, backpacking, and adventures with his family. Brother Turcotte has served as a Scoutmaster, Young Men’s president, Elder’s Quorum president, gospel doctrine teacher, member of a bishopric, stake clerk, and he presently serves in the high council of the Rexburg East Stake.
