UAS/Drone Society Newsletters
Hi [FIRST_NAME],
Welcome to our New Members!
Our Society has been growing rapidly since its founding last semester! We are thrilled to have so many new members join us and look forward to getting to know those who have recently joined!
Congratulations to our Society Officers!

Current Affairs
THIS THURSDAY, Professor Burchfield will be presenting on the Drone Pilot Licensing process. His lessons are always fantastic, so you'll be glad you came! Those who have already received their Part 107 are also welcome to come connect with each other and help those who are interested in learning more! Let's meet at our usual location in Romney 145 @ 4:30-6. Refreshments provided!
Looking Forward
June 7th [NEXT WEEK] - Explore the Marvelous Mapping World of GIS! Our Society will be hosting a joint activity with the International Studies Society on the theme of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). It's actually way cooler than it sounds! Bring your friends! This event will be held on a Wednesday (instead of our normal Thursday time, to accommodate the Int'l Sudies Society).
June 24th - 'Astrofest' in the Spori Quad. This event will take place from 10 AM - 2 PM and is open to the general public. We will be staffing a booth to educate people about the myriad applications of drones in every industry. If you would like to help us (and get a great resume-builder volunteer activity to add to your list), please let Omega know by responding to this email. If you're unsure, feel free to reach out for more information.
Fridays from 4-5 PM - the UAS-based mapping team invites anyone from the UAS/Drone Society to join them for a weekly flight practice in the Upper Playfields. This is an unbeatable opportunity to get flight practice and master drone maneuvers (for free!). (Times are subject to change due to weather or field trips; Brother Burchfield will notify us in such cases, but you can always double check with him at burchfieldd@byui.edu).
New Battery Protocol
We will be sharing the school drones with the UAS-Based Mapping class this term, so we need to make sure that we place the batteries directly back on their chargers after flights. This will ensure that the batteries are charged and ready for the next use. The Mapping class will be doing the same.
(So far, we have been doing great at keeping up with this!)
Membership Goals
Help us connect to all UAS/Drone fans on campus by telling people about the super cool "drone club" you're a member of. This could include roommates, FHE groups, friends, classmates, and even the person you strike up a conversation with in the Chick-Fil-A line. Use this QR code to send people to our I-Belong page. The people who become members of the society on I-Belong will receive our newsletter, see upcoming events, and more!

Become a Society Officer!
Sadly, we are losing our beloved Secretary, John, in a few short weeks. He has been with us since our society began last semester. We are looking for someone to succeed him in his role.
A great way to gain leadership experience and build your resume while at college is to serve in the leadership of an academic society. If you are interested in this opportunity, please send a Statement of Interest in response to this email (or directly to Omega at thi13003@byui.edu)
