A playful adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel which follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters—sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne—when their positions in society suddenly become vulnerable after their half-brother inherits the family home. Elinor and Marianne navigate the minefield of falling in love and seeking marriage while living in gossipy late 18th-century England. The play examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart? Eventually, the sisters both find themselves in loving relationships with men who recognize their value as amazing women, rather than concerning themselves with the women’s financial and social status.
