Objects That Were Left Behind… by Wayne Kimball

The Spori Gallery presents a new exhibit, Objects That Were Left Behind…, by world-renowned lithographer Wayne Kimball. Lithography is a complicated art medium, combining the manual labor of stonecutting, the artistic skill of line drawing, and the technical mastery of printmaking. Kimball is known for producing witty and humorous takes on serious subjects like Roman statues or formal settings, painstakingly working images onto slabs of Bavarian limestone or plates of grained aluminum.  For years, he has also been repurposing his prints alongside found objects, arranging composites within boxes, or compiling intricate collages.
 
Wayne Kimball was born on 15 July 1943 in Salt Lake City. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from
Southern Utah State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Arizona. He
also is certified as a Tamarind Master Printer from the Tamarind Institute at the University of New Mexico.  His work can be found worldwide in major museums such as the National Gallery, the Smithsonian Institute, and the British Museum.
 
Kimball's teaching experience includes several faculty positions at universities in New Mexico, Wisconsin, California, Texas, Arizona, and twenty-five years at Brigham Young University, where he retired in 2009.  Wayne currently resides in Orem, Utah, surrounded by family, artwork, and “Objects That Were Left Behind.”
